2011 – 2013
“discovered in play” (named for a line in one of Austin Kleon’s newspaper blackout poems) started out as a blog about adult play. It was a first step as I explored the idea of writing a book on the topic.
Over the years, this blog evolved and became more personal. As I became fascinated by the role of play in personal growth and mental health, as well as the concept of divine play (of the cosmos, big ‘meaning of life’ stuff), “discovered in play” changed into something a little more meta – rather than write about play there, I went there and wrote… in order to play. Writing (my art, my “play”) became the way I made sense of my emotions and my world, how I “discovered” myself – much like children use physical and imaginative play to do the same.
